The America's Cup is the kind of race where the quest to gain a winning edge depends a lot on the design of the boat. So at the christening of the Kiwi boat in Auckland, designers and boat builders alike enjoyed their moment in the limelight. From the innovative hull of a second generation AC75 to the appropriate name “Te Rehutai”, each aspect of the boat was applauded by the crew destined to sail it.
This included OMEGA ambassadors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. Gracing their wrists on this momentous occasion was the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M.
A Master Chronometer certified chronograph, the new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M is crafted in a 45mm stainless-steel case with a blue ceramic dial with Arabic numerals, a date window at 6 o' clock and two sub dials – one with small seconds and another with a 60-minute and 12-hour counters. Encircling the dial is a blue ceramic unidirectional rotating diver's bezel with Liquidmetal™ diving scale. Furthermore the watch is equipped with an alveol screw-in caseback and an antibatcerial blue leather strap with rubber lining. If you are not a fan of the rubber strap, you can opt for a steel bracelet.
The watch is powered by OMEGA's Calibre 9900 which can be viewed via the transparent caseback. The Calibre 9900 is a movement that has passed the industry’s toughest tests to achieve Master Chronometer status. This allows the watch to offer exceptional resistance to magnetism which makes its an ideal tool for sailors and designers working in high-tech environment.
