Watches and Wonders 2023: IWC Schaffhausen's new Ingenieur and Pilot's Top Gun watches

IWC Schaffhausen introduced four Ingenieur Automatic 40 models in stainless steel and titanium and two ceramic timepieces in the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN
IWC Schaffhausen, at the 2023 Watches and Wonders fair in Geneva, referenced the 1970’s Gérald Genta for the new Ingenieur Automatic 40 and introduced ceramic pieces to its iconic Pilot’s Chronograph line.

Ingenieur Automatic 40
Swiss watchmaker, IWC Schaffhausen took to the 1970’s Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, to create the new Ingenieur Automatic 40, a classic steel sports watch. The Maison introduced three models in stainless steel and one in titanium.

For the models with a stainless steel case, Ref. IW328901 has a black dial, Ref. IW328902 has a silver-plated dial, and Ref. IW328903 has an aqua dial. The dials feature a “Grid” structure with rhodium-plated hands and appliques. The one with a Grade 5 titanium case, Ref. IW328904, features a grey dial with black hands and appliques. The cases and bracelets are polished and satin-finished and the bezel is fixed to the case with five polygonal screws.

IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre powers the timepieces and offers about 120 hours of reserve. To protect the movement from magnetic fields, the inner case is made with soft iron. In addition, the watches are water-resistant to 100 metres.

Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN
IWC introduced its first collection of Pilot’s Watches in coloured ceramic in 2022 with “The Colors of TOP GUN”. The Maison now has unveiled its first 41mm Pilot’s Chronograph in ceramic at the Watches and Wonders fair in Geneva, in two new colours.

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN “Oceana” (Ref. 389404) is crafted with blue “Oceana” ceramic, inspired by the US Navy’s blue overalls. The blue dial inside the 41mm case features luminescent hands and indices for legibility in the dark. The blue rubber strap is detailed with denim finish textile inlay.

With the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN (Ref. 389401), IWC Schaffhausen introduced the Pilot’s Chronograph for the first time in a 41mm case in “Jet Black” ceramic, which the brand has used in its IWC TOP GUN line since its debut in 2007. The colour took inspiration from the supersonic jets’ technical components. Matching the colour scheme, the dial and rubber strap are also in black. Similar to the “Oceana” model, the hands and indices are luminescent. The IWC EasX-CHANGE® system allows changing the strap easily.

In both models, the caseback and pushers are made with titanium and both are water-resistant to 100 metres. The IWCmanufactured 69380 calibre powers the timepieces. The inner case is made with soft iron to protect the movement from magnetic effects and the crystals are firmly secured to withstand the sudden air pressure drops inside the cockpit.
