MB&F’s second collaboration with Eddy Jaquet brings forth a new hand engraved limited edition timepiece

The new MB&F X Eddy Jaquet LM Escapement is limited to only eight pieces
In 2020, MB&F collaborated with Neuchâtel-based master engraver Eddy Jaquet, who is renowned for his dial engraving. This was for its eight piece unique LM Split Escapement, chosen specifically for its large surface that can be used for elaborative engraving. Jaquet beautifully explored and reimagined the literary works of Jules Verne in this engraving on the dial - the creation went on to win the GPHG’s Artistic Crafts Award in 2021. Now, the two have come together for a second time, with Jaquet once again using the dial plate as his artistic canvas - the result is the new MB&F X Eddy Jaquet LM Escapement, also an eight piece limited edition.

MB&F X Eddy Jaquet LM Escapement

The literary inspiration continues in the new MB&F X Eddy Jaquet LM Escapement with eight classic young fiction novels for eight unique timepieces being expressed on the dial - these include Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe; The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas; The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper; The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, The Call of the Wild by Jack London; Moby Dick by Herman Melville; Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson; and Robin Hood.

WORKSHOP 1 EDDY JAQUET

Encased in 44.5 mm stainless steel, the timepiece features hand engraved dials with a 14mm flying balance wheel in the centre, black lacquered hour and minute sub-dials with Roman markers at 12 o’clock, a date ring at 7 o’clock, and power reserve indicator ring at 5 o’clock. The master engraver has highlighted heroes of each novel as the focus of each illustration on the dial at 6 o’clock, so one can identify the scene and story engraved around them.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS CLOSEUP 1

To reflect this through engraving, Jaquet has taken references either from a whole chapter or from a simple paragraph. For example, on the dial of The Jungle Book timepiece, one can see Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo and Shere Khan. In the timepiece featuring The Treasure Island, depicted on the dial is Jim jumping from the boat and escaping the Pirates, which was based only on two sentences from the novel. Jaquet also treats the dial metal to make it differently textured for maximum contrasts.

Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback is the hand wound LM SE movement developed for MB&F by Stephen McDonnell, beating at  2.5Hz and boasting a 72 hours power reserve. The timepiece is completed with a dark navy hand-stitched alligator strap with stainless steel
folding buckle.
