TAG Heuer, Porsche, and Carrera Panamericana come together in the brand’s novelty

The limited edition TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana celebrates the legacy of the two giants
TAG Heuer association with Porsche and the Carrera Panamericana race is well-known in the industry. To celebrate the long-standing partnership between the watchmaker and the car manufacturer, as well as the victory of the Porsche 550 Spyder in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana edition, TAG Heuer has created the new Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana watch.

The novelty takes inspiration from the same Porsche 550 Spyder race car. Measuring 42mm in diameter, the alternately fine-brushed and polished stainless steel timepiece features a skeleton dial resembling the wheels of the car, and its colour scheme takes cues from its livery—there’s silver, yellow, and black, where the yellow lacquered elements include the central seconds and chronograph hands. The subdials and the dial plate are finished with a shimmery touch taking after the car’s bodywork. At 3 o’clock lies the minute chronograph counter and on its opposite is the hour chronograph counter. The indexes are rhodium-plated and faceted, as well as the hour and minute hands, all coated with white SuperLumiNova® that glows green in the dark.

The dial has a grained effect from the asphalt texture of the road. The ‘Panamericana’ is marked at the 6 o'clock above the tourbillon.  On the flange lies the Porsche logo, and on the side of the case, ‘Spyder’ logo is engraved in the same font used by Porsche in the 1950s. The dial is topped with the domed sapphire Glassbox crystal. The water resistance is 100 metres.

Powering the timepiece is the TH20-09 in-house tourbillon movement with a 65-hour reserve. The sapphire caseback gives a view of the oscillating weight which resembles the steering wheel of Porsche, present in all TAG Heuer x Porsche watches. The watch is flanked with a black perforated calfskin leather strap with yellow lining going with the colour scheme and the sporty aesthetics of the watch, completed with a steel folding clasp.
The watch is a limited edition of 255, where the number ‘55’ graced the Porsche 550 Spyder  in the 1954 race. The caseback is engraved with ‘LIMITED EDITION’ and the individual number of the watch. The timepiece comes inside a black lacquered wooden packaging with personalisation, and is priced at approx. INR 34,30,000.
