Time Capsule: The Breitling Heritage Exhibition is a travelling exhibit of the brand that first started touring last year, when the watchmaker turned a 140 years old. As part of the various commemorative activities undertaken, this showcase of some of the brand’s most important watches through its history travelled to 55 cities, across North America, Europe, Oceania, Middle East, and Asia, and has finally arrived at Indian shores.
Presented by Ethos Watch Boutiques, the exhibition has been unveiled at Breitling’s new boutique in Bengaluru’s Mall of Asia, and marks the opening of this outpost. It will next travel to Chennai, and then Hyderabad, and is open for all to visit and see.
Some of the trailblazing pieces on display include the first Navitimer introduced in 1952, which set the pace for one of the brand’s most iconic collections; and the Cosmonaute from 1962, a watch that was requested by astronaut Scott Carpenter that eventually became the first Swiss wristwatch in space. Also showcased is founder Leon Breitling’s son, Gaston Breitling’s mono-pusher from 1915, which separates the chronograph functions from the crown, and his son Willy Breitling’s Populaires from 1937,which set the template for chronographs to become accessible by mass-producing them at an approachable price. Watch lovers will, however, enjoy most the pathbreaking Chrono-Matic from 1969, which features the brand’s first automatic chronograph movement, the Calibre 11, created in partnership with Heuer Leonidas, Hamilton Buren, and Dubois-Depraz.
“We’ve launched Time Capsule to honour our heritage and celebrate our breakthroughs,” says Georges Kern, CEO, Breitling. “Each exhibition is a captivating journey that connects our heritage with the present, allowing guests to witness the evolution and lasting spirit of our brand.”
Other interesting watches that are part of the exhibit include the first smartwatch introduced by the brand in 1942 - a Chronomat, which featured an analog calculator - and several vintage cocktail watches for women. Guests can read about each watch in detail by scanning QR codes.
