Tissot was announced as the official timekeeper of the National Basketball Association
(NBA) in 2015. Since then, the brand has been creating watches for the league, launching the first dedicated watch in 2016 - the PRS 516 NBA Championship Watch - whose caseback was engraved with the championship trophy and the logo of the Cavaliers' team, the winners that year; it was also the first watch ever created for NBA champions. Continuing the tradition, this year, the brand has unveiled a new Supersport NBA Special Edition. The watch is a part of a bunch of new releases by the brand, which also includes a new collection for women, called Desir. We take a look at both…
Supersport NBA Special Edition
Tissot’s association with the NBA runs deep. Other than creating dedicated NBA watches, the brand has also designed special shot clocks and timekeeping devices for NBA teams' home courts. Recently, Tissot has also announced that it will be redesigning the Tissot shot clock, whose distinct round shape is inspired by the brand’s watchmaking legacy. Continuing the size and colours of the previous shot clock, the new clock will feature advanced technology and will debut in the 2025-26 NBA Season and 2026 WNBA Season. Along with that, the brand also announced that it will also be a presenting partner of the NBA Global Game in Europe for the next 10 years as well.
Tissot shot clock“This new shot clock is a testament to our commitment to being an integral part of the game. We want to keep contributing to enhancing the fan experience. Through the shot clock and the Official Watch that are perfect synergies between Tissot and the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League, we will speak to the basketball community. Our collaboration goes beyond the court — it's about inspiring a lifestyle that reflects the passion, energy, and dedication to the game itself,” says Tissot CEO Sylvain Dolla.
This year, to celebrate the decade-long partnership, the brand has launched a special edition NBA watch (Ref. T125.617.37.067.00), which takes inspiration from the numbers on the players’ jerseys, and also complement the new shot clock.
Tissot Supersport NBA Special EditionThe watch comes in a 45.5mm 316L stainless steel with a full PVD black finished case. The aluminium bezel has the 24-second rule inspired by the NBA’s shot clock and its inner side features the blue and red colours of the league. The dial mimics the texture of a basketball with an anthracite gradient that fades from dark grey to black at the edges. There’s a 12-hour counter, a small seconds with a date window, and a 30-minute counter at 3,6, and 9 o’clock.
Tissot Supersport NBA Special EditionThe hour markers are bold and legible, and the numbers 3,9, and 9 draw inspiration from the font that’s printed on players’ jerseys. Another basketball connection is the counterweight of the second’s hand that is designed like the NBA logo.
The closed caseback of the watch is engraved with the NBA logo at the centre, surrounded by the city and US states after which the league's teams are named - both the Western and Eastern Conferences, ordered by their latitude. Powering the watch is a Swiss Quartz chronograph movement with battery type Renata 394. A rubber, plastic, and synthetic leather strap completes the watch.
