Breguet is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year with special launches and innovations, which so far have highlighted the aesthetic and technical DNA of the brand. The first launch by the brand was the
Classique Souscription 2025, unveiled last month, and inspired by the Souscription pocket watch that was first introduced in 1796. To continue the celebrations, the brand has now launched the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035.
Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035
Like all watches in the Tradition collection, this timepiece is also a blend of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s Souscription watches from 1796 and tact watches from 1799 that feature an external hand and markings placed around the case that allow the time to be read by touch. Although, what stands out in this new release is the combination of Breguet Gold, an exclusive alloy of gold, silver, copper and palladium presented for Breguet’s 250th anniversary with the Classique Souscription 2025 watch, and Breguet Blue, first introduced with the Breguet Classique 5177 in 2019, brought together for the first time in a timepiece by the brand.
Breguet gold, the new alloy, is used in this model in its 38mm case, off-centered dial, Breguet hour hands, minute hands, and buckle. The dial is a Breguet Gold disc finished with Breguet’s signature guilloché texture with translucent blue grand feu enamel in Breguet Blue. There are Breguet Arabic numerals and a stylised fleur-de-lys minute track in contrasting silver. There is also a unique serial number at 4 o’clock. The seconds retrograde display is positioned between 10 and 11 o’clock.
The dial is covered with Breguet BlueKeeping with the aesthetics of the Tradition collection, this watch also features a unique architectural structure exposing the movement for the owner to admire the inner-workings of the mechanism just like the watchmaker did when crafting the timepiece. The watch is powered by the automatic 505SR calibre, beating at the frequency of 3Hz, and offering a 50-hour power reserve.
Caseback of the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035Turning the watch reveals a caseback just as fascinating as the front. The oscillating weight spinning above the bridges comes with a silky, hand-applied satin finish on their upper surfaces, presenting a textural contrast from the shot-blasted mainplate - a first in the Tradition collection. The crescent moon-shaped weight is crafted in vertical brushed platinum, a nod to AL Breguet’s innovation of using platinum in watchmaking for the first time ever. The silver-coloured gears peppered with blued screws and ruby-red jewels finish off the caseback elegantly. The watch is worn on a navy blue alligator leather strap tied with a buckle in Breguet Gold. The watch comes in a special edition 250th anniversary individually numbered red leather case, inspired by the Breguet Moroccan leather cases of the period.
