ID Genève has unveiled a timepiece in celebration of leading Middle Eastern retailer Seddiqi & Sons’ 75th anniversary, paying homage to the beauty of the Arabian desert. Limited to just 20 numbered pieces, the MorphoDune 75th Anniversary Edition is a Swiss-made mechanical watch.
Inspired by the fluid movement of sand shaped by desert winds, the MorphoDune’s dial features undulating, dune-like motifs interlaced with geometric forms inspired by Arabic art. Arabic numerals, enhanced by Super-LumiNova, highlight that glow. The 37 mm case is crafted entirely from reprocessed 316L stainless steel, paired with an integrated bracelet, handmade in Le Locle. The bracelet mirrors the rolling waves of sand through semi-elliptical brushed and polished links, while a discreet accent of spiritual blue nods to a colour deeply rooted in Arabic culture, symbolising peace and protection.
The piece marks a first in watchmaking through a collaboration with Morphotonix™, a Swiss start-up known for its advanced nanoprinting technology used in the protection of Swiss banknotes and passports. Instead of using pigments or coatings, Morphotonix™ uses light to imprint intricate holographic structures directly into the metal dial, creating natural iridescence that produces shimmering holographic patterns. With every shift of the wrist, the dial reveals a spectrum of natural iridescence, reminiscent of sunlit dunes.
Each piece is hand-assembled in Geneva by master watchmaker and co-founder Cédric Mulhauser. Inside beats a refurbished ETA 2892 automatic movement, sourced from unsold stock, a robust and easily serviceable calibre with 42 hours of power reserve.
“Each piece is a dialogue between tradition and innovation,” said Singal Depéry, co-founder of ID Genève, and designer and artistic director of this edition. “The MorphoDune captures both the heritage of the desert and the futuristic potential of nanotechnology. It reflects what makes Seddiqi unique — a rare ability to honour its roots while continuing to inspire the future of watchmaking.”
