Ressence's new Type 9 IKE is limited to 8 pieces

The brand has collaborated with Japanese artist Terumasa Ikeda for its latest timepiece
After a successful vibrant collaboration with Daniel Engelberg, a Munich-based sculptor and painter, for its TYPE 8 DE, Ressence now brings another collaborative piece - Type 9 IKE. At Dubai Watch Week 2025, when I met Benoît Mintiens, Founder, Ressence, he hinted an upcoming new collaborative creation was on the horizon. And now that it has been unveiled,
it’s clear that the wait was worthwhile.

For the new Type 9 IKE, the brand has collaborated with Japanese artist Terumasa Ikeda, who has meticulously done urushi layering and lacquering of ultra-fine raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) on the convex dial of the watch. The watch seems to be a sci-fi-inspired composition.

"I chose raden because it was the most fitting technique to express that world — vivid, like a computer screen,"says Ikeda. "Raden is basically flat, and it breaks easily, like eggshell," he says. "So we soaked it and bent it gradually on rubber sheets, little by little, so that it would follow the curvature," he added.

For a perfect composition on the dial, Ikeda chose ultra thin shell pieces, and individually cut and shaped them. After this process, he then placed it onto the titanium dial and finished it with black urushi lacquer.

This is a time only watch displaying hours and minutes. The hour can be read via the internal ring with the line pattern made with small squares, while the minutes can be read via a longer line made with small squares showing the markers on the DCL-coated bezel.. The watch has a 39 mm flying saucer shaped titanium DLC case.

A customised automatic calibre ETA2894/2 base with a mounted  ROCS 9 module powers the watch and offers a 36-hour power reserve. Limited to just 8 pieces, the watch is offered on a shiny black horse leather strap.
