Escalalated last year, the jumping hour trend in watches is here to stay. Proving it right is the Urwerk’s new UR-101 Diamond Sky, a bejewelled jumping hour watch. The latest watch is a resurgence of the brand’s debut watch UR-101, released in 1997 in BaselWorld.
“We are not looking back with this Diamond Sky edition, but instead extending an intuition. The steel of the case creates a striking contrast with the diamonds, resulting in a model combining technical excellence and aesthetic sophistication”, says Felix Baumgartner, Co-founder, Urwerk.
The watch is a subtle blend of the mechanical excellence that the brand prowess and the art of jewellery. Its 41 mm stainless steel case and lugs are decorated with diamonds. There are geometric patterns on the case sides. The abstract pattern is more evidently seen on the front side—each interjection is set with a diamond, reflecting a star in a moving universe.
“The diamonds are points of light, guiding us as the stars do. Their hexagonal arrangement follows a clear principle: in space, stars bear witness to the laws of nature; on our dial, they create balance, connecting top and bottom, and translate a design vision into a simple, harmonious structure,” stated Martin Frei, Co-founder, Urwerk.
Moreover, retaining the DNA of the debut watches, the latest model features a satellite display through 180 degree arc, showing jumping hours; a crown at 12 o’clock, the brand’s signature; and angular lugs.
It is a 255-piece limited edition, powered by the brand’s automatic movement UR-1.01V, boasting a power reserve of about 48 hours. A textured white rubber strap with black calfskin lining completes the watch.
