It was exactly 50 years ago that OMEGA received the coveted “Silver Snoopy Award” from the astronauts at NASA. This special award recognised the Swiss watch brand's contribution to space exploration – the OMEGA Speedmaster was the first watch to be worn on the moon.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, OMEGA launched the all-new Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary – a one-of-a-kind timepiece that perfectly represents the value of the award and what it means for OMEGA. The anniversary special watch showcases a combination of animation with watchmaking art.
The timepiece is crafted in a 42mm stainless steel case with a silver dial that has been laser-engraved with Ag925. The dial houses two blue subdials and blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands. This time around, the watch also features our favourite beagle that sits prominently as an embossed silver medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o'clock. Wearing his famous spacesuit, the beagle is in the exact style of the silver pin that NASA astronauts give to awardees.
What is really interesting in the watch is when you turn it around. Here you will find Snoopy going into orbit, courtesy to his animated black and white Command and Service Module (CSM) on a magical hand. Furthermore, similar to the Apollo 13 crew, Snoopy takes a flight around the mysterious side of the moon when the chronograph seconds hands is in use. Our home Earth is also included which rotates once per minute that moves in sync with the watch's small seconds hand. The iconic quote, “Eyes on the Stars”, is included within the black universe. The NAIAD LOCK which keeps all the engravings in the correct position features the date when OMEGA received the award.
The timepiece is powered by the ground-breaking OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. Available in a blue nylon fabric strap with a lining embossed with the trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission, the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary comes with the brand's full 5-year warranty and is not a limited edition production. The watch will be delivered in its own Apollo 13 presentation box, with a microfiber cleaning cloth, a brochure, and a magnifying glass to help you get up close to the details.
