Ulysse Nardin unveils the latest iteration of its Freak S timepiece at Watches & Wonders 2024, featuring enhancements that elevate its innovative and unconventional design. Introduced in 2001, the original Freak laid the groundwork for Ulysse Nardin's enduring legacy, which was carried on by the Freak S unveiled in 2022.
The new Ulysse Nardin Freak S Nomad is presented in a 45mm titanium case with an anthracite PVD-coated titanium bezel and see-through caseback, accented by carbon fibre side plates for a modern aesthetic. The highlight of the watch is its sand-coloured guilloché hour disc with a diamond pattern, drawing attention to the flying carousel movement featuring two large inclined oscillators with silicon balance wheels connected by a differential mechanism.
The carousel, resembling a spacecraft, completes one rotation per hour, serving as both the minute hand and hour indicator. Beneath it, a disc indicates the hours, rotating every twelve hours. The in-house UN-251 calibre powers this watch, boasting a 72-hour reserve. The synchronised rotation of the barrel and carousel relies on the silicon escapement, ensuring a steady release of energy. Its design incorporates two inclined balance wheels connected by a differential, enhancing accuracy by averaging errors.
The timepiece comes with two strap options, a grey rubber "ballistic" textured strap or a matte grey "openworked" alligator leather strap with sand-colored calfskin leather inserts, both secured with a titanium deployant buckle. Limited to 99 pieces, the Ulysse Nardin Freak S Nomad is priced at approx. INR 1,28,560,000.
