Watches and Wonders 2023: Rolex’s exhaustive list of novelties to know about

Rolex introduces nine novelties to its iconic line of Oyster Perpetual including a new Daytona to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the legendary watch
Standing to its legacy, the independent watch brand, Rolex, introduced nine new timepieces at the Watches and Wonders, which includes a range of Oyster Perpetual. The novel collection also has a new Daytona.

Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona
First launched in 1963, the Daytona celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and to its celebrations, Rolex launched the new Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona at Watches and Wonders 2023, in 32 versions.

The new launch is the redesign of its ancestor with subtle upgrades but has a major upgrade in its movement from calibre 4130 to automatic calibre 4131 that also incorporates the Chronergy escapement which is magnetic resistant. Other movement features include a Parachrom hairspring (manufactured in-house by Rolex), Paraflex shock absorbers, and a new oscillating weight with an optimised ball bearing. The new movement integration offers a power reserve of about 72 hours.

All versions have a 40mm case and for those with a Cerachrom bezel, the bezel is edged with the same metal as that of the case material. Another change in the new Daytonas can be seen on the bridges with the “Rolex Côtes de Genève” decoration. The other is the cut-out oscillating weight in 18 ct yellow gold which can be seen through the transparent caseback.

Perpetual 1908
With the new Perpetual 1908, Rolex adds classic dressy watches to its latest collection wherein ‘1908’ throws light on the day when the Maison was officially registered as “Rolex” in Switzerland.

Perpetual 1908

The 1908 reflects elegance at its best with its slim 39 mm 18K yellow or white gold case housing an intense black or intense white dial. The bezel, hands, and hour markers are domed with fine fluting, creating a play of shadow and light, and a symbolic of Rolex. On turning the case over, the transparent caseback shows the ‘Rolex Côtes de Genève’ decorated calibre 7140 movement and the 18K cut-out oscillating weight. The watch comes with a classic alligator leather strap with green lining along the edges.

Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42
Not forgetting a classic sports watch, Rolex added the Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42, specially curated for sailing. The RLX titanium build makes the watch lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and offers mechanical strength, therefore suitable for sporting. This alloy has been used by the Maison earlier in its Oyster Perpetual Deepsea Challenge, which was again a sports watch. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres.

Calibre 3235 powers the watch with a date function at 3 o’clock. The 60-minute graduated, bi-directional bezel, either made with precious metal or with high-technology ceramic with a Cerachrom insert, is equipped in the watch for professional sailors to track time in the open sea.

The RLX titanium case is flanked with the robust Oyster bracelet equipped with the Easylink comfort extension link. To the final touches, the case and the bracelet are polished with a satin finish, exhibiting smoothness and lustre.

Oyster Perpetual Sky Dweller
Rolex reveals the Oyster Perpetual Sky Dweller as the new tool for travellers with its two time zones and an annual Saros calendar. The new collection combines a classic 18K white gold case with a black dial along with two coloured dial versions - mint green with white Rolesor and blue-green with 18K Everose gold, among others.

The watch is powered by Calibre 9002 which combines the Chronergy escapement with an oscillating weight and an optimised ball bearing. The case size rests 42mm in diameter with a fluted bi-directional bezel. There is an additional time zone in the 24-hour format displayed by an off-centre disk. At 3 o’clock lies the date window while the month is displayed in red in the apertures along the hour markers close to the circumference of the dial. The watch offers a power reserve of about 72 hours and water resistance of up to 100 metres.

Oyster Perpetual GMT Master II
The iconic GMT Master II comes in two new versions with Rolex’s new collection - the yellow Rolesor (combination of Oystersteel and yellow gold) and 18K yellow gold, both with a Cerachrom bezel insert coloured in black or grey. The black lacquer dial features an 18K yellow gold 24-hour hand and golden “GMT-Master II” text with lume-applied hour, minute and seconds hands and indices. At 3 o’clock lies the date window with Cyclops lens. The watches are driven by calibre 3285, offering about 70 hours of power reserve.

The watches are water resistant up to 100 metres and come with the Jubilee bracelet with Oysterlock clasp and Easylink comfort extension link, in both Rolesor and all-gold models.

Oyster Perpetual Explorer 40
Rolex adds another model to its Explorer line with the new Oyster Perpetual Explorer 40, crafted in a diameter of 40mm in Rolex’s Oystersteel alloy that makes it robust and resistant to corrosion. The automatic calibre 3230 runs the watch with hours, minutes, and seconds functions, and offers about 70 hours of power reserve.

The watch exhibits a simple and classic design with a black dial inside the satin-finished build. All indices and hands have applied lume, the Chromalight display glows bright in blue to allow time readability in all conditions. The Oyster bracelet is integrated with the Easylink comfort extension link and Oysterlock clasp for a comfort fit.

Oyster Perpetual
Taking a joyful ride, Rolex revealed the Oyster Perpetual with colourful bubbles on the lacquered dial. The timepiece comes in three case-size variations- 31mm, 36mm, and 41mm. The colours in the bubbles combine the five hues used for the range back in 2020. Those were pastel pink, coral, turquoise, hunter green, and yellow.

The watches are crafted in Oystersteel. The one with case size 31mm is powered by calibre 2232 with 55 hours of the reserve while the other two house the calibre 3230, offering 72 hours of power reserve.

Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36
Rolex exhibits expertise and craftsmanship with the new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36, where the dials are made with natural decorative stones and combined with gold cases. The three variations in the collection are - the green aventurine dial with 18K Everose case, the carnelian dial with 18K yellow gold, and the turquoise dial with 18K white gold. The shimmering stone dials reflect the hues of the Mediterranian coast. Each dial is unique given that each stone carries a different crystallised effect. 52 Brilliant-cut diamonds adorn the bezel. The hour markers and the Roman numerals VI and IX are also studded with precious diamonds. At 12 o’clock lies the day of the week window and at 3 o’clock the date aperture.

The cases are flanged with the President bracelet, crafted by Rolex exclusively for the Day-Date and the versions of Datejust made with precious metals. Rolex’s manufacture calibre 3255 powers the watches and offers up to 70 hours of reserve.

A new version of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 is a fun and creative one. The colourful dial, in turquoise blue, red, fuchsia, orange, green and yellow made with the champlevé enamelling technique, features the pieces of a puzzle put together defining that life is a puzzle wherein each part, that is symbolic of a moment of one’s existence, is put together every day. The day window at 12 o’clock displays words of inspiration - ‘Happy’, ‘Eternity’, ‘Gratitude’, ‘Peace’, ‘Faith’, ‘Love’ and ‘Hope’, and the date window at 3 o’clock displays 31 emojis of human expressions. The hour markers are characterised by 10 baguette-cut sapphires in the six theme colours.
