Known for its legacy of creating exceptional writing instruments, Montblanc is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Meisterstück, the brand’s most sought-after writing instrument, with the introduction of a new Star Legacy Exo Tourbillon Skeleton Enheduanna. The timepiece pays tribute to Enheduanna, the world’s earliest known author, who was appointed the high priestess of the moon god Nanna in the Sumerian city of Ur in 3200 B.C.E. Enheduanna’s poem ‘The Exaltation of Inanna’ for goddess Inanna, deity of Sumerian empire, was mentioned and studied in the Sumerian texts for over 500 years. Montblanc Star Legacy Exo Tourbillon Skeleton Enheduanna For the release of the Star Legacy Exo Tourbillon Skeleton Enheduanna, the brand’s watch designers associated with Catherine Mittermayer, Professor, Mesopotamian Studies in the Department of Ancient Sciences, University of Geneva.
Crafted in 18K yellow gold, the 44.8mm 10-piece limited edition timepiece features decorations inspired by the high priestess, her work, and her era. There is an open-worked anthracite ruthenium-coated German-silver dial divided in the upper and lower half. The upper half features an onyx hour and minute dial engraved with the extracts from one of the Temple Hymns of Enheduanna, and a crescent moon at 12 o’clock. The lower half entails a mirror-polished Exo Tourbillon at 6 o’clock, with an 18K yellow gold engraved Enheduanna sitting on it.
Furthermore, the brand’s logo is in the Sumerian manuscript interpreted via the symbols for white, and mountain at the end of the text on the dial; an 18K gold crafted bull, a popular representation of Nanna is at 3 o’clock. The architectural decorative design behind the bull represents the Royal Game of Ur, on the dial.
The side of the case also honours the author with her words, “The compiler of the tablets was Enheduanna. My king, something has been created that no one has created before”.
Three years in making, the timepiece is equipped with the brand’s patented in-house Suspended Exo-Tourbillon complication. The “Exo” is derived from the Greek for external or outside and refers to the large balance wheel with screws, which is positioned outside of the tourbillon’s rotating cage. The Exo Tourbillon saves more energy than a conventional tourbillon as the cage is smaller in size and free of the weight of the balance wheel.
Powering the watch is a hand-wound Manufacture German silver skeleton movement calibre MB M16.69, boasting a 50-hour power reserve. The timepiece comes on a black calf leather strap. Additionally, the timepiece is offered inside a special presentation box etched with two extracts of Enheduanna’s Temple Hymns, continuing the celebration of Enheduanna legacy in literature.
