Launched in 2019, the MACH 1 collection by Bangalore Watch Company is inspired by stories from Indian Aviation. The line includes timepieces like Admiral, whose dial is made from the metal recovered from the INS Vikrant R11, the Indian Navy’s first aircraft carrier that was decommissioned in 2014; Synchro, inspired by Surya Kiran, the Indian Airforce’s aerobatics team; Officer’s Blue, whose colour takes after the uniform of Indian Air Force officers; and the MACH 1X whose dial is made of military-grade-anodized aluminium recovered from a decommissioned MiG 21 fighter plane.
This time, the inspiration for the new MACH 1 Avalanche comes from Indian Aviators who fight and ensure safety of the nation’s border forces that protect our high-altitude borders. Also, there are more than 1300 peaks that are above 6000 metres in the Himalayan range, with many of those within the Indian airspace - these high-altitude aviators also fly at these incredible heights in low-oxygen conditions to safeguard
the country.
“High-altitude flights are extremely dangerous. The thin air makes it challenging for helicopters to create and sustain lift. Since the late 1970s, Indian aviators have been routinely flying rescue and resupply missions to the high peaks of the Himalayas – braving biting cold, oxygen-thin air, and icy, rugged terrain of some of the world’s highest battlefields,’’ says Mercy Amalraj, Co-Founder and Head of Ownership Experience, Bangalore Watch Company. This is the story that we wanted to celebrate with our newest watch in the MACH 1 line-up.”
The latest MACH 1 Avalanche is encased in a 316L surgical grade steel 40mm case with matte black PVD coating, topped with a flat sapphire crystal coated with two layers of anti-reflective coating. For the dial, the brand’s designers have come up with a new white colour called Frostpeak, whose texture is reminiscent of freshly fallen powdery snow. The dial also entails a motif de grain finish that gives the dial a different shine under different lighting conditions.
Further, resembling airspeed indicators and the bright colours of mountain rescue helicopters, there is a red coated Super-Luminova® on the minute hand and the tip of the seconds hand. The dial also features large Arabic minute indicators and a date window at 6 o’clock. The watch is equipped with the automatic Swiss made Sellita SW200-1 movement, with 38-41 hours of power reserve, and its closed caseback shows a helicopter flying over peaks. The watch is completed with a black leather strap, and 316L steel tang buckle with BWC signed logo.
The watch is priced at Rs. 1,00,000 (approx.) and is available on the brand’s website for purchase.
