Longines Ultra-Chron Diver was the first diver watch equipped with a 5Hz high-frequency movement, the Longines Calibre 431, which came with a date, with a deviation of two seconds per day or one minute a month. The 41mm stainless steel Ref. 7970 was launched in 1968 and boasted an iconic cushion-shaped case and had a water resistance of about 200 metres. In 2022, the line was revived by the brand with the release of the Ultra-Chron Ref. L2.836.4.52.9, and the latest edition to join the collection is the Ultra-Chron Carbon Ref. L2.839.4.52.2., featuring a carbon case for the first time in the brand’s history.
Longines Ultra-Chron CarbonThe new Ultra-Chron Carbon has a 43mm cushion-shaped case that’s lightweight and ultra-resistant. The pattern on each case is unique, thanks to the manufacturing process which involves strips of unidirectional carbon fibre and epoxy resin, which are placed into a mould and heated and then compressed under high pressure, before finally cold-cut.
The watch has a fixed titanium bezel with aluminium insert engraved Arabic markings and a sand-blasted anthracite dial featuring twelve baton-shaped applied silver hour markers and grey PVD hour and minute hands coated with blue luminescence Super-LumiNova®, and the Ultra-Chron logo at 6 o’clock.
The caseback is closed and is engraved with the Ultra-Chron logo and hidden beneath is the automatic Longines calibre L836.6, beating at 5Hz high-frequency and boasting a 53-hour power reserve. The movement is chronometer-certified by TIMELAB and is resistant to magnetism with its silicon balance spring. The watch is water resistant up to 300 metres. A black technical fabric strap, with a titanium buckle, flanks the case.
