Breitling Superocean Heritage gets a sharp and stylish upgrade for 2025

Breitling has unveiled a Superocean Heritage Kelly Slater Limited Edition along with updates in the line
Breitling’s divers watch Superocean Heritage was first introduced in 1957 with the Ref. 1004, a time-only piece, and Ref. 807, the world’s first dedicated dive chronograph. Their spear-and-arrow hands, anodized rotating bezel, and sleek proportions made them an instant adventurers’ favourite.

In 2017, the brand released a redesigned Superocean Heritage line, called the Superocean Heritage II, marking the 60th anniversary of their diver's watch. Now, in 2025, it gets another makeover, inspired by Hawaiian surf culture. “The Superocean Heritage is our most elegant sea watch, and this update is all about refinement,” says CEO Georges Kern. “Every detail has been perfected – but the spirit stays the same. It’s about style at sea.”

The new collection comes in several different permutations and combinations of sizes, functionalities (chrono and time-only) and colours that include black, blue, and green (light and dark), each accented by ceramic bezels. Headlining the updated lineup is the Superocean Heritage Chronograph 42, encased in 42 mm stainless steel. There are 30-minutes and 60-second sub-dial at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock respectively. Models with black dials feature 18K red gold crown, pushers, and a ring around the bezel. The chronographs are powered by Breitling’s flagship Caliber 01, an in-house automatic movement with 70-hour power reserve, visible through a sapphire caseback. The watch is paired with color-matched ceramic bezels with a modern and scratch-resistant finishes.

This release also debuts Breitling Caliber B31, the brand’s first exclusive three-hand manufacture movement in Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic housed in 44 mm, 42 mm, and 40 mm stainless steel cases. B31 offers a power reserve of 78 hours. In this line, the watches with blue dial feature 18k red gold crowns, pushers and a rings around the bezel.

Along with these models, there is also a smaller variant in 36 mm stainless steel, the Superocean Heritage Automatic 36. It houses the self-winding mechanical movement, Caliber 10, and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. Available in blue and green with matching ceramic unidirectional bezels.

All these watches retain the original model’s arrow hand for hours and a spear hand for minutes, and pointed indexes. The dial features tone-on-tone symmetrical subdials and a date window at six o’clock. With a screw-down crown, the watches are water resistant up to 200 metres. The watches are finished in mesh-metal and mesh-rubber bracelets.

The collection also includes a Kelly Slater Limited Edition – Breitling Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40, dedicated to the American surfer’s retirement from professional surfing, limited to 500-pieces. This timepiece draws inspiration from the Hawaiian surf culture that shaped Slater’s life. Its dial showcases a foliage pattern, a nod to the landscapes of his adopted home in Hawaii. Housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case, the watch features a clear caseback that reveals the self-winding Breitling Caliber B31 movement. Around the sapphire window, the engraving reads “One of 500” and “Kelly Slater Limited Edition,” underscoring its exclusivity.

The watch is offered on either a blue rubber mesh strap or a classic Milanese stainless-steel bracelet, and comes packaged in a special presentation box adorned with the same Hawaiian floral motif seen on the dial. Inside, collectors will also find a personal note from Kelly Slater.
