Marking 15 years of watchmaking, Laurent Ferrier has unveiled the Sport Auto 79—a new timepiece in the maison’s celebrated Sport collection. Crafted entirely in solid red gold, the timepiece is far more than a luxurious sports watch; it’s a deeply personal tribute to the origin story of the brand itself.
The Sport Auto 79 commemorates a pivotal moment in 1979, when Laurent Ferrier, François Servanin, and François Trisconi—then amateur racing drivers—clinched a remarkable third-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That unexpected podium sparked the birth of of this independent haute horlogerie brand.

Sporty elegance in gold
As with its predecessors, the face of the watch exudes elegant understatement. The opaline-cream dial with a galvanized rose-silver finish shimmers in various nuances depending on the light. The composition is complemented by the turned-out small seconds at 6 o'clock. A particularly eye-catching feature is the prominent date window at 3 o'clock, which appears tone-on-tone. Also color-coordinated are the handcrafted assegai hands with spear-shaped tips and the drop-shaped indices, which are coated with Superluminova for legibility in all lighting conditions.
A case with strong character
Water-resistant to 120 meters, the tonneau-shaped case of this luxury sports watch measures 41.5 millimeters in diameter and 12.7 millimeters thick. Its curved lines and combination of satin-finished and polished surfaces reference the aerodynamic shapes of classic racing cars. An integrated rose gold link bracelet completes the sporty, elegant design.
The automatic caliber LF 270.01
Inside, a manufacture movement with a micro-rotor ensures precision. The automatic caliber LF 270.01 was entirely designed, finished, assembled, and adjusted in the Laurent Ferrier workshops. It offers an impressive power reserve of over 72 hours . As is typical of Laurent Ferrier, this microcosm, consisting of 215 components, is exquisitely refined and finished. These include beveled edges, perlage, polishing, and satin-brushing on the ruthenium-coated bridges.
