Louis Erard has collaborated with Wire Art, Switzerland, to create Fil d’Or Louis Erard X Wire Art (Ref. 34248AA52.BVA158), a 99 piece limited edition. The highlight of the watch is its dial, for which engineers of Wire Art Switzerland, Sylvie Villa and Mark Miehlbradt reprogrammed microchip bonding machines to craft micro-sculptures in gold on the dial.
Encased in 39 mm stainless steel, this is a time only watch, with a fascinating dial. At a glance it looks like a deep black lacquer dial with a geometric pattern, but is actually work of art. The dial is made of 2,320 threads of 24K gold, which are three times thinner than a human hair. The pattern is called Métiers d’Art signature cube motif. With the trompe-l’œil geometry on the dial it catches light and creates a sense of depth.
The machines are reprogrammed to place every Fil d’Or aks gold threads after every three seconds, to maintain the correct pattern. Moreover, there are laser-etched baseplates, micro-soldered connections, and precise calibration for enhanced aesthetic. The watch also features newly designed rhodium-plated hands, which are distinguished with their satin-brushed top and diamond-polished angles and a soldered points 24-Karat chapter ring.
Through the sapphire crystal caseback, one can see the automatic Calibre Sellita SW261-1, boasting a 38 hours power reserve. The watch is paired with a beige grained calf leather featuring tone-on-tone stitching and a black calf leather lining and a stainless steel pin buckle.
The watch is priced at Rs. 4,94,000 (approx.)
