Meet Coromandel Watch Co’s new Blue Mountain Edition Gen 3

The watch takes inspiration from the birth place of the brand, the Nilgiris
Founded in 2024, the young Indian microbrand Coromandel Watch Co. has been making waves off late thanks to its sold out watches. The brand first caught my attention when it launched the Varnam collection with three dial colours in emerald green, blue, and salmon inspired by the western ghats, blue sapphire, and Indian textile. Though I wasn’t able to see these watches up close, I was able to spend some time with the brand’s latest Blue Mountain Edition Gen 3, a timepiece that pays tribute to the Nilgiris, the birthplace of the brand.

Launched last year, the Blue Mountain collection pays tribute to the Blue Mountain Railway, which is one of the last remaining steam-powered railways in the world. The collection is instantly recognisable with its cushion-shaped case and chronograph counters. While the Nilgiri Railways is interpreted on the green fume dial via its signature colours in blue, red, and yellow on the chronograph counter located at 9 o’clock.

The spectrum of colours extends to the chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, which is inspired by misty clouds, earthy soil, and dark mountain ranges. And just like the Gen 2, this watch too has a mini Nilgiri train illustration between 4 and 5 o’clock. Moreover, there’s a tachymeter scale on the flange and a date window at 6 o’clock. The hands and hour markers are coated with lume.

Upon wearing its 40 mm case sits comfortably on the wrist. Despite featuring colourful chronograph counters, the watch has a legible display. It is definitely a sporty style and will serve well for outings and adventures.

The watch is powered by a Seiko VK64 Meca-Quartz Chronograph movement and offered with a brown leather strap. Turn the watch back to the Nilgiri train motif on the closed caseback. The watch is priced at Rs. 8,500.
