Watches and Wonders 2025: Hermès brings back its exclusive Time Suspended complication

Hermès once again showcases it exclusive complication – time suspended– in the Arceau Le Temps Suspendu and for the first time in the Hermès Cut. The brand has also reinterpreted the classic anchor chain link as a wristwatch and a brooch watch.
In 2011, Hermès literally suspended time with its unique and exclusive complication – Time Suspended – that allowed watch owners to stop the time on the dial whenever they wanted. The maiden watch with this complication featured a pusher at 9 o’clock, which when pushed, would station the hour and minute hands, unmoving, around 12 o’clock. However, the movement underneath would continue running, and when the pusher was again activated, the time would be displayed correctly.

This year at Watches and Wonders 2025, the luxury brand redesigned this complication in its new launches – Arceau Le Temps Suspendu and Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu.

Arceau Le Temps Suspendu

Arceau Le Temps Suspendu

The Arceau Le Temps Suspendu was first launched in 2011, and immediately became a success in the world of horology, winning the GPHG that year for the 'Best Men's Watch'. Several iterations followed to make the Arceau Le Temps Suspendu an Hermès classic. Today, a reinterpretation of the classic 2011 model is out in a new aesthetic.

The 42mm case, designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, comes in white and rose gold. Each variant offers three dial colour options: Sunburst blue, brun désert, rouge sellier. The case retains the asymmetrical lugs as the original model and features a time-setting crown at 2 o’clock, in the classic Hermès fashion.  Crown at 9? There is also a retrograde date hand in an arc, numbered from 1 to 31.

The watch is equipped with an anti-glare sapphire crystal and a transparent caseback, and offers a view of the movement Manufacture Hermès H1837 that oscillates 4Hz, and has a 45-hour power reserve. The watch is water-resistant up to 300 meters.

The alligator leather strap is also available in three variants: Rouge sellier, matt étoupe or bleu abysse.

Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu

Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu

The first Hermès Cut was unveiled at Watches and Wonders, last year. This year, the brand is building this collection by introducing the Time Suspended complication in it for the first time.

This variation is 39mm, which is 3mm larger than last year’s smaller, rounder 36mm version. The rose gold case features a circle within a round shape and is available in several variants, including one with a red dial. A variant also comes with a polished bezel set with 60 diamonds. There is a crown between 1 and 2 o’clock and a “Time suspended” pusher at 8 o’clock.

There is a 24-second counterclockwise running indicator at 4 o’clock, which completes 2 minutes in 5 rotations - another whimsical way to play with time. This version is powered by Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), offers a 45-hour power reserve and is water resistant to 100 meters. This timepiece comes with an interchangeable strap finished with a butterfly clasp.

Maillon Libre

Maillon Libre Wristwatch

Hermès is reinterpreting its iconic anchor chain link – Maillon – that has been used as a design element in various luxury products from the brand, including necklaces, pendants, rings, shoe, and accessories – into its timepieces with two high-end watches: Maillon Libre Wristwatch and Maillon Libre Brooch Watch. Both the watches come in rose gold and white gold.

The wristwatch’s case is shaped like an anchor chain and comes studded with 38 brilliant-cut diamonds in varying sizes. Making it a jewellery watch, the bracelet is also studded with more than 200 brilliant cut diamonds, 12 baguette-cut diamonds, and is accented by 4 cushion-shaped terracotta tourmalines. The wristwatch comes in varying lengths, available from 140mm to 170mm.

Maillon Libre Brooch Watch

The rose gold brooch watch features a rose gold dial, while the white gold version features a matt onyx dial, studded with 10 brilliant cut diamonds. The 44 brilliant-cut diamonds studded case is anchor shaped, again, and measures only 35mm X 23mm. The brooch is also studded with 21 brilliant-cut diamonds, 2 baguette-cut diamonds, set with cushion-shaped indicolite tourmaline or terracotta tourmaline in white gold and rose gold, respectively. The brooch watch can be worn as it is or transformed into a pendant using a leather cordlet and a calfskin or alligator clochette that covers the dial.
Both the watches in the Maillon Libre collection are powered by a quartz movement and display only hours and minutes.
