Mark Zuckerberg and his growing collection of luxury watches

Meta CEO’s obsession for haute horology is growing and growing
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta known for wearing the staple of a custom-made grey T-shirt by Italian designer Brunello Cucinelli and blue Rag & Bone denims, is of late shaking it up in the accessories department. Along with a change in the wardrobe with not-so-solid tees, bespoke suits, jewelry — comes a wrist upgrade for Zuck. The tech mogul who was always spotted wearing a smartwatch on and off, has been seen sporting exquisite haute horology timepieces for nearly a year now.

In the March of last year, while visiting India for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s grand wedding, along with wife Priscilla Chan, Zuck went viral for admiring Anant’s Richard Mille, priced more than a crore. “This is so cool,” Chan can be heard saying in the video. Ever since, Mark has stepped up his wrist game.

After the wedding, Mark posted a selfie with his wife, wearing a Patek Philippe Ref. 5236P-010. That was the first time he was seen wearing a luxury watch.

Ref. 5236P-010 is a 41.3 mm salmon-coloured platinum watch. There is a moon phase display at six o’clock encircled by small seconds. A window at 12 o’clock displays day, date and month. There is also a leap year window at 4 o’clock with a day/night display at 8 o’clock. Powering the watch is a self-winding mechanical movement 31-260 PS QL offering a power reserve of minimum 38 hours. It is currently priced at over a crore.

More recently, Zuck flaunted a De Bethune DB28xs Purple Rain in a recent instagram post. A limited edition 38.7 mm timepiece, it stands out for its striking purple colour, as suggested by the name, obtained by heat‑oxidised grade 5 titanium, used in its case and guilloché dial. On the dial, there are hand‑set white gold star markers, reminding of stars in the night sky. The watch features signature floating lugs and a subtle crown at 12 o’clock. The time is read by polished titanium with silver-transferred numerals pointed at by skeletonised hands.

In September last year, Zuck was seen wearing another De Bethune timepiece, the Starry Varius. Housed in a polished titanium case, the watch features a mesmerizing blue dial crafted from heat-blued titanium, adorned with white gold pins to depict a night sky. The watch is powered by an in-house movement DB2109V4.

Another standout piece in Mark Zuckerberg’s collection is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife, a rare timepiece released in 2020 as a limited edition of just 100 pieces to mark the Kingsman film franchise. This watch is a modern homage to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 1907 Couteau pocket watch, evident in its defining feature: the 12 o’clock crown flanked by a V-shaped crown guard, reminiscent of a knife’s silhouette. The watch is housed in an ultra-slim 40 mm case. At its core is the calibre 849, a manually wound movement.
Zuck also has an affinity for rare timepieces like Greubel Forsey Hand Made 1. Spotted wearing in an Instagram video, Hand Made 1 is a rare timepiece that is 95% crafted using only hand-operated tools, representing over 6,000 hours of work per watch. Its 43.5 mm white gold case houses a manually wound movement that includes a hand-finished tourbillon with a 60-hour power reserve. Even the dial, with its engraved indexes and hand-blued steel hands, reflects the artisanal spirit of early 19th-century watchmaking. Only two to three examples are made per year, making the Hand Made 1 not just a watch.

He was also spotted wearing an extremely rare Rolex Daytona Cosmograph Ref. 6239 in a New Year’s Instagram post. Also known as the ‘Paul Newman’, it is housed in a 36 mm stainless steel case, and features contrasting sub-dials, often black on silver or vice versa, which laid the groundwork for what collectors now call the ‘Panda’ or ‘Reverse Panda’ dials. Early models were powered by the Valjoux 72 manual-winding movement, a robust caliber that was modified and renamed Rolex Calibre 722.

With his pieces, Mark has become quite the collector in a short span of time. It will be interesting to see what’s next for Meta CEO’s wrist.
