Known for its innovative timepieces, TAG Heuer is launching its first skeleton dial timepiece within its iconic Monaco collection. Introduced in 1969, the Tag Heuer Monaco collection stood out for its bold, square design, and was popularised by racers like Joe Siffert, Jochen Rindt, and the actor Steve McQueen in the movie Le Mans. With the 80th Monaco Grand Prix coming up, the brand, wanting to highlight the legacy of this association, has unveiled three chronographs that are inspired by different facets of partnership.
There is the original blue skeleton (Ref. CBL2182.FT6235), inspired by the first-ever TAG Heuer Monaco blue dial. The second watch (Ref. CBL2183.FT6236) has a racing red skeleton dial, drawing its inspiration from the racing sparks made on the tracks. The third (Ref. CBL2184.FT6236) features accents of turquoise on its skeleton dial, referencing Monaco's coastline. The main difference among the three watches are the colours on their dial, which extends to their respective column wheels and engravings on the oscillating weight.
The new TAG Heuer Monaco chronographs, in the line’s typical style, feature a 39mm sand-blasted DLC-coated titanium grade 2 case with two geometric pushers. While Ref CBL2182.FT6235 and Ref. CBL2183.FT6236 have silver-hued cases, Ref. CBL2184.FT6236 has a black case. The skeletonised dial features a 12 hours and 30 minutes counter at 9 and 3 o’clock respectively, while the seconds counter and date are displayed creatively at 6 o’clock to make sure the movement behind can be seen, along with a clearly visible date ring that moves every 24 hours.
Furthermore, the dial is enhanced by luminous hands and hour markers that extend to the periphery of the dial. The bi-material strap is a combination of rubber and leather, with a folding clasp with double-security. While the red and turquoise versions have black straps, the blue iteration features a blue strap. The timepiece is water resistant up to 100 m. The caseback also allows one to see the popular Calibre Heuer 02 Automatic beating inside.
