Walking in the footsteps of a legendary watch is the newest timepiece from Seiko. The Prospex 1965 Diver’s Re-creation is inspired by Seiko's and Japan's very first diver's watch, released in 1965. The Seiko Prospex 1965, also known as 62MAS, was equipped with an automatic movement and had 150 metres water resistance. The watch was used by the members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition from 1966 to 1969, an act that proved its undeniable reliability.
The Original Seiko Prospex 1965 The Prospex 1965 Diver’s Re-creation
Today, the brand has taken design cues and dimensions from the parent piece to craft a re-creation, in a limited edition of 1965 pieces. Ref. SJE093 is a near visual replica of the original diver’s watch – the grey dial colour, 38mm steel case, a date window at 3 o’clock, and the same dolphin emblem on the caseback. The unidirectional bezel is coated with LumiBrite, along with hands and hour markers.
The updates come in the form of a new Caliber 6L37, the first movement from the slimline 6L family made expressly for diver’s watches. It features the same accuracy and power reserve as the trusted and mainstay of the 6L family—the 6L35 movement. Power reserve of approximately 45 hours. The Seiko Prospex The 1965 Diver’s Re-creation offers improved water resistance of about 200 metres. Additionally, the high-strength silicone strap flanks the case of the watch for robustness, which is, however, a reborn version of the original strap which was a Tropic strap.
