After launching 57.04 Iris last year—the watch with colour-shifting dial, Ming now goes creative with its latest 29.06 Peep Show—a watch that magically changes dials.
Wearing the new Ming 20.6 Peep Show on your wrist throughout the day keeps surprising you as its dial keeps changing every 15 minutes. When the hands are positioned at 180 degrees, the iridescent dial is visible, whereas at 90 degrees, the watch displays a black dial.
Let’s break down the magic behind the Ming Peep Show watch here. The watch uses polarized light, a technology used in camera lenses and polarized sunglasses. Instead of using regular watch hands, the watch has transparent sapphire discs coated with polarized material. As these discs rotate over the dial, they control how light passes through the different layers beneath. At certain positions, light is allowed through, making the dial appear colourful and iridescent, while at other angles the light is blocked, turning the dial dark or black.
This is also thanks to the metal dial beneath the polarised effect, which features deep cut machined guilloche technique coated with the multiphasic treatment that appeared in 57.04 Iris.
Encased in 40 mm grade-5 titanium, the watch is equipped with a MING Calibre ASE 200.M1,made with Schwarz-Etienne, boasting an 86 hours of power reserve. The watch is completed with a perlon-textured calfskin strap with Alcantara lining by Jean Rousseau.
