Jaeger-LeCoultre brings two new Master Hybris Artistica watches

The brand shows its highest watchmaking skills with the new Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 184 and Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 945 ‘Dragon’
Reinterpreting the brand’s celebrated calibre 184 and calibre 945, created in 2019 and 2010 respectively, Jaeger-LeCoultre has unveiled two artistic creations. One is Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 184, which comes in two iterations crafted in 18K rose gold (Ref. Q5252470) or 18K white gold (Ref. Q5253470), and the other is Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 945 ‘Dragon’ (Ref. Q52624A3). All are a limited edition of five pieces.

Calibre 184 by Jaeger LeCoultre highlights the brand’s watchmaking mastery, it is truly a marvel of one the greatest complications. The calibre is composed of 1052 components and it takes about five months to assemble it correctly. Only a single watchmaker works on assembling the components right from beginning to the end. The calibre is equipped with the smallest version of the bi-axial gyrotourbillon with a highly intuitive perpetual calendar, a minute repeater that sounds the Westminster chime, a one-minute constant force mechanism, a dead-beat minute hand, and a leaping date display.

The new 43mm watches with Calibre 184 beating inside are displayed at the Precision Pioneer exhibition in Beijing this September. The highlight of the watch is the Gyrotourbillon, which is the fifth iteration with Gyrotourbillon, a multi-axis tourbillon, which now reinterprets the original form of the Gyrotourbillon design (Master Gyrotourbillon) released in 2004. The size of the mechanism has been reduced and re-engineered to accommodate a minute repeater without adding thickness to the calibre.

The black grand feu enamel dial with golden geometric decoration features a Gyrotourbillon with one-minute constant force mechanism at 6 o’clock. There is a big black sapphire subdial at 12 o’clock incorporated with baton hour markers, year window at its 12 position, covered by an outer broad peripheral ring with date markers. Week and month windows are located at its left and right respectively.

Both watches come with transparent sapphire caseback revealing the beauty of the complex movement that provides 50-hours of power reserve. The timepieces are finished with black alligator straps and are water resistant up to 50 metres.

The latest expression of Calibre 945 comes in a mythical dragon aesthetic. The 45mm 18K pink gold timepiece is enhanced with hand engraved animal scales that took about 50 hours of work by skilled artisans in the Métiers Rares atelier. The multi-level dial features an opaline and circular brushed base, with an astronomical display, reflecting mankind’s link to the cosmos.

There is a pair of 18K pink gold hand-engraved dragons sculpture. The deepest level of the dial entails a sandblasted disc accentuated with tiny stars, on its periphery, one can see the names of the months. The months and date of the zodiacal calendar are indicated by a sun-shaped gold pointer. There is a brand’s patented Cosmotourbillon, a celestial flying tourbillon that orbits the dial at 6 o’clock, which now comes with an innovative minute repeater.

The time on the dial is displayed by three concentric rings - the opaline inner ring indicates 24 hours, the outermost ring with a silver opaline finish features minute markers, and between them, the 12-hour ring is circular brushed, with applied golden indexes.

The Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 945 ‘Dragon’ has a 40-hour autonomy and is complemented by a black alligator leather strap.
