The new limited edition Titan Unity Automatic Watch celebrates the brand's 40th anniversary

The latest timepiece pays tribute to the historic space journey of Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian in space
Indian military pilot and cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to go to space on April 3, 1984, in the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz T-11. Interestingly, it was the same year, in July, that brand Titan was born. Now commemorating both these anniversaries is the 300-piece limited edition Titan Unity Automatic Watch.
Titan Unity Automatic

Released in the brand’s popular Steller collection, Titan Unity Automatic is a 43mm stainless steel watch featuring a celestial midnight blue dial with lume-filled hands and spacecraft-shaped seconds hand. The design of the dial is inspired by Sharma’s view of Earth from space - India in focus in the centre, with a starry sky above it. ‘Unity’ draws from how the world looked like one cohesive whole from his vantage point. There are the Indian flag’s tri-colour markers at 11, 12, and 1, in saffron, white, and green, and visible through the sapphire crystal caseback is the in-house automatic movement P3H with 40 hours of power reserve.

A highlight of the watch is the inscription of “Saare Jahaan Se Achha” along with the date of the mission, on the rotor - the famous phrase was used by Sharma when he was asked by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi how India looked from space.

The first edition of the watch is presented to Sharma in a felicitation ceremony at Lupa restaurant and bar, in Bengaluru. "Forty years ago, when I gazed at Earth from above, I saw no boundaries—just one beautiful, unified Earth. It is time to rework our outdated societal model that prefers confrontation over cooperation to protect our beautiful home for future generations. I'm deeply touched that Titan has captured this perspective in the Unity Watch. Its celestial dial features our beloved India, and the inscription on the watch serves as a reminder that while we measure time in seconds, we ought to measure progress in terms of the peace dividend achieved by us. This timepiece not only commemorates a journey into space but celebrates every Indian's ability to reach for the stars," said Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma.

“The Unity Watch, crafted by our in-house team, embodies the innovation and artistry of 'Make in India.' It celebrates space, science, and our leap forward in creating watches that honour India’s remarkable legacy,” said Rahul Shukla, Vice President & CSMO of Titan Watches. “With this launch, we reaffirm our commitment to crafting timepieces that embody and celebrate the indomitable spirit propelling India forward.”
