Ming has extensively worked with grade 2 titanium in its latest watch 37.02 Ghost

While keeping to its signature minimal aesthetic, Ming’s new watch, the 37.02 Ghost is crafted in the difficult-to-machine grade 2 titanium with different finishes
Following the aesthetics of 37.02 Minimalist released last year, independent watch brand Ming has released a new timepiece, the 37.02 Ghost. The latest release is another testament to the brand's lexicon of refined aesthetics delivered with innovative materials, mechanics, and engineering.

37.02 Ghost in grade 2 titanium

What’s particularly impressive though is that the 37.02 Ghost uses grade 2 titanium for its case, dial and buckle. It is the grade 5 version of titanium that is used in most timepieces across the watchmaking industry owing to its easy-to-machine properties.

On the other hand, Grade 2 titanium is largely avoided by brands for being highly ductile and being resistant to cutting which makes it hard to work with for making delicate objects like a wristwatch.  Ming, however, decided to embrace the rugged nature of the material, capitalising on its ability to feature a brushed finish - the brand got creative with the brushing directions on the surface, resulting in a shiny and bright dial thanks to contrasting circular and radial brushing; it also reacts to light differently when viewed from different angles.

Watch is powered by Sellita SW300 Calibre

Overall, the watch is 38mm and light, 35 grams to be precise, and only 11mm thick. The watch is also water resistant to 260 mts.  Powering the watch is an all-anthracite Sellita SW300 Calibre created for Ming with custom skeletonized bridges and plates, boasting a power reserve for 50 hours. With Super-LumiNova X1 coated hands, the Ghost lights up in the dark displaying hours and minutes. The watch is finished with a matching grey coloured goat leather strap fitted with a grade 2 titanium tuck buckle. With a limited edition of 250 pieces, the watch retails for INR 3,60,000 (approx.) and is available on the brand’s website.
