The new Chanel J12 watches are here

J12 watches have been at the core of Chanel's offering for more than two decades. Here are the new Chanel J12 2022 watches that were launched at Watches and Wonders 2022

As part of the Watches and Wonders 2022, which took place earlier this month, Chanel released a host of novelties within their emblematic J12 collection. First launched more than two decades ago, the range has garnered immense popularity for its ceramic timepieces. The new Chanel J12 watches shown at Watches and Wonders 2022 include an all-new 33mm automatic, the first in-house flying tourbillon variation, models that pay tribute to Gabrielle Chanel, a special red-coloured edition, and an all-new capsule collection, the Wanted. Here's a look at the new Chanel J12 2022 watches.

J12 Calibre 12.2 33mm

Flagging off the new Chanel J12 2022 watches is the 33mm J12, the first 33mm variant to be equipped with a self-winding movement. Produced by the Switzerland-based manufacturer Kenissi and co-owned by the watchmaker, the Calibre 12.2 offers a state-of-the-art design and features an oscillating mass in the form of a perfect circle that can be admired through an exhibition caseback. The movement is COSC-certified and can run autonomously for at least 50 hours. The J12 Calibre 12.2 33mm is available in a black or white ceramic case along with a matching unidirectional bezel and a perfectly legible display.

J12 Diamond Tourbillon Calibre 5

The J12 Diamond Tourbillon Calibre 5 is a flawless representation of Chanel’s mastery over watchmaking skills and passion for aesthetically pleasing designs. The new timepiece comes with the brand’s first-ever flying tourbillon movement, which has been entirely conceived and manufactured at their factory located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Not only this, the watch is nothing short of a visual treat as it consists of the watchmaker’s signature lion’s head at 9 o’clock, in addition to a solitaire diamond positioned in the centre of the flying tourbillon cage located at 6 o’clock. To add to the extravagance, the bezel, crown and timekeeping hands have been studded with diamonds that instantly grab attention. This new 2022 J12 is available in matte black ceramic and steel or in glossy ceramic and 18K white gold, each limited to 55 pieces.

Mademoiselle J12

First released in 2017, the Mademoiselle J12 models are best known for featuring jaunty illustrations of Chanel’s founder, Gabrielle Chanel. The brand has now released three new variants, all of which are limited to just 55 units.

Part of new Chanel watches is Mademoiselle J12 La Pausa, which comprises the silhouette of the fashion designer dressed in a Breton top and sailor pants. It is inspired by one of her photographs taken in her garden at La Pausa—her villa on the French Riviera. The 38mm t is an all-black edition that comes with a white baguette diamond bezel and is powered by the new calibre 12.1, which can store a power reserve of up to 70 hours.

The Mademoiselle J12 XS is arguably the most whimsical of the three new models as it represents the brand’s founder in the form of a white gold and black lacquer figurine, clinging to the 19mm watch case. Moreover, she wears a two-tone straw hat that accentuates a brilliant-cut diamond.

Meanwhile, J12 Gabrielle Calibre 3.1 showcases a more sober and classic illustration of Gabrielle Chanel, who is seen here dressed in typical black and wearing strings of pearls. Housed in a black ceramic case, the 38mm watch is paired with an 18K white gold bezel that is studded with 46 baguette-cut diamonds.

J12 Highly Wanted De Chanel Box

Part of the watchmaker’s latest Wanted capsule collection is the J12 Highly Wanted De Chanel Box which consists of six J12 models, which have been reinterpreted in matte black ceramic. Although the watches have similar design codes and movement inside, each one of them has a different Chanel logo stamp. The designers have used the six iconic letters of the brand as a graphic code to give a unique identity to every model. All the watches are sized at 38mm and are powered by Calibre 12.1.

J12 X-Ray Red Edition

Apart from the black or white themed variants of the new Chanel J12 watches, the brand has also released their well-known J12 X-Ray model, which now comes with eye-catchy red accents. The openworked timepiece consists of 46 baguette-cut rubies on its bezel and 12 baguette-cut rubies as hour indices. Equipped with the in-house manual-winding calibre 3.1, the new J12 iteration offers a power reserve of 55 hours and is limited to just 12 units.
