Geneva Watch Days 2023: Kolobok is Konstantin Chaykin’s new Wristmon

Kolobok by Konstantin Chaykin is the latest anthropomorphic 'Wristmon' watch inspired by the Russian tale of the naughty ‘Little Round Bun’
Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin is known for his Wristmon, a portmanteau of ‘Wrist Monster’, collection of watches that feature anthropomorphic dials inspired by various characters from movies, books, and myths. After Wristmons that have been inspired The Joker, Harley Quinn, Santa Claus, Dracula, and even a minotaur, Chaykin has brought the naughty bun from the Russian tale of the ‘Little Round Bun’ alive in his latest timepiece, Kolobok.

Kolobok is a 40mm stainless steel watch with a yellow face, made so to resemble the crust of baked bread. The dial has a light fume effect – it's darker on the edges - and is dusted with mother-of-pearl to give it a glow. As is with Konstantin Chaykin’s Joker display module, the ‘eyes’ make for the hour and minute sub-dials. The pupils are bright blue on a glossy white background, with the rim showcasing the hour and minute scales – the time is indicated by the roving pupils. The mouth of Wristmon watches are typically employed as moonphase indicators, but in the case of the Kolobok, it also becomes a day-of-the-week indicator, apart from featuring a moonphase indicator.  The seven days are represented by different characters from ‘Little Round Bun’, including Grandmother, Grandfather, fox, rabbit, wolf, and more. The owner can choose the character he / she wants to make the first day of the week. The role of the moon is played by an openwork yellow circle in the mouth.

Turn the watch over and you can see the automatic K.18-20 caliber (based on ETA 2892-A2), to which the manufacture-produced module has been added. Beating at 28,800 vph, the watch has a power reserve of 42 hours. But there is another aspect to be admired – a gilded rotor. Assembled with 15 parts, it features a radiating sun with intricate facial features; positioned on either side are a hut and birch. The lower portion of the rotor and the top of the steel rim on the back cover have the name of the watch engraved in stylized Cyrillic letters.
